The Relationship between Differentiation of Self and Forgiveness: The Mediating Effect of Mindfulness

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to verify the mediating effect of mindfulness on the relationship between differentiation of self and forgiveness in adults. Participants were 432 adults, who were administered the K-Differentiation of Self Scale, Five-facet Mindfulness Questionnaire and Forgiveness Trait Scale. Correlational and regression analyses were conducted to examine the relationships and mediating effects among the variables. Differentiation of self was positively correlated with forgiveness and mindfulness. There was a positive correlation between mindfulness and forgiveness. Mindfulness had a partial mediating effect in relation to differentiation of self and forgiveness and ¡®Being non-reactive¡¯ had a full mediating effect on the relationship between differentiation of self and forgiveness. ¡®Describing¡¯ had a partial mediating effect on the relationship between differentiation of self and forgiveness. Implications, limitations and future research directions are discussed.
